Job Summary.:
The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining UTEC buildings in Lowell, Lawrence, and Haverhill by performing repairs, general carpentry, painting, and installations while ensuring a safe and clean environment. This role supports construction projects, event logistics, and routine building inspections, ensuring compliance with OSHA and safety regulations. Additional duties include responding to building alarms, assisting with emergency management, managing inventory and supply orders, and collaborating with facility staff to keep UTEC properties well-maintained and operational.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee, track, and update facilities work orders/tickets within the online facilities management system, ensuring timely follow-up and completion.
- Perform proactive repairs at UTEC buildings located in Lowell, Lawrence, and Haverhill.
- Patch and paint walls and surfaces; repair and adjust doors and hardware.
- Replace damaged or missing ceiling tiles and lighting fixtures.
- Install cove base and perform carpet repairs; hang boards, pictures, signs, and other wall mounted items.
- Conduct minor furniture repairs and general carpentry tasks.
- Ensure a professional, safe, and clean working environment.
- Provide assistance with internal construction projects and large capital projects.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and setting up items during deliveries.
- Collaborate with other facilities staff, vendors, and volunteers as needed.
- Adhere to OSHA and other regulatory safety guidelines.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions and meet the physical demands of the role.
- Conduct building rounds and assist with fire extinguisher, elevator, and sprinkler inspections.
- Support emergency management and safety initiatives.
- Respond promptly to building alarms and urgent facilities needs.
- Manage equipment purchasing, supply ordering, and inventory management.
- Provide logistical and set-up support for UTEC events and functions.
- Work some nights and weekends as needed to support special events, weather-related needs, or building health and safety concerns.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and/or HVAC systems
- Demonstrated strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Driver's license and clean driving record
- Required to drive commercial vehicles off-site to local locations
- Have a strong work ethic with reliability and dependability
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent project management skills
- Knowledge of basic cleaning and maintenance practices
- Proficiency with computers and ability to work with Google platform (Gmail, Google Sheets)
- Must possess good time management and organizational skills, including the ability to multi task, tactfully deal with unforeseen challenges and people
Education and Experience:
- 5+ years experience in a facilities position
- High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform outdoor work for prolonged periods of time during inclement weather conditions.
- Frequent climbing, bending, stooping and reaching, occasional work in restricted spaces and frequent carrying/transporting heavy loads up to 50lb.
